Independent insurance adviser

The cover you have, explained properly.

Hartwell & Moss reads the small print so you don't have to. Tell us what you own, what worries you and when your renewal lands — we come back with options in plain English.

Independent, so the recommendation follows the risk — not a single insurer's list.

Most enquiries start the same way: a new home, a new car, or a renewal notice that went up.

What we place

Six lines of cover, one adviser

Personal and small commercial risks, arranged across a panel of insurers. If something you need sits outside this list, say so in your enquiry and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

Home & contents

Buildings, contents and the awkward extras — bikes, instruments, a studio at the bottom of the garden. We check the sums insured actually match what it would cost to rebuild and replace.

Personal

Motor

Everyday cars, second vehicles and classics kept for weekends. Named drivers, mileage and where the car sleeps all move the price, so we get them right the first time.

Personal

Renters

Contents cover written for people who don't own the walls, including shared flats, deposits and accidental damage to a landlord's fittings.

Personal

Life & income

Term life, critical illness and income protection arranged around a mortgage or a young family, with the exclusions read out loud before anything is signed.

Protection

Small business

Public liability, professional indemnity, stock and tools for sole traders, studios and shops. Sensible limits rather than the largest number available.

Commercial

Travel

Single-trip and annual cover, including declared medical conditions, winter sports and the camera bag that travels with you.

Personal

How it works

Three steps, no pressure

From first message to documents in your inbox, you deal with one person and one thread. Nothing is bound until you say so.

  1. Tell us what you need covered

Send the short form below, or forward your current schedule. We'll ask a handful of follow-up questions and nothing you don't need to answer.

  2. We compare and translate

We gather terms from our panel and set them side by side — excess, exclusions, claim limits — with the differences written in ordinary sentences.

  3. You choose, we handle the paperwork

Pick the option that fits. We arrange the policy, store the documents and put a note in the diary well before your renewal date comes round again.

What you get

Four things we hold ourselves to

Plain-English wording

Every recommendation comes with a short summary of what is covered, what is not, and the excess you would actually pay.

One named contact

The person who quotes your cover is the person who answers when you write back. No queue, no reference number.

An annual review

Before renewal we check whether the cover still matches your life — a new room, a new job, a car that finally left.

Support at claim time

If you need to claim, we help you assemble the evidence and stay on the thread with the insurer until it closes.

The adviser

Nora Hartwell

I spent nine years inside insurers' claims teams before opening this practice, which is a polite way of saying I have read a great many policies at the worst possible moment.

That experience shapes how I quote. I look at what a wording does when something goes wrong, not only at the premium on the front page — and I would rather tell you a cheaper policy has a gap in it than win the business quietly.

"A policy is only as good as the sentence you'll need on your worst day. I read that sentence first."

Questions

Before you write to us

Does the advice itself cost anything?
No. We're paid by the insurer when a policy is placed, and we tell you what that arrangement looks like before you commit to anything. If we can't improve on what you already hold, we'll say so and there's nothing to pay.
Can I switch before my renewal date?
Usually, yes. Most policies can be cancelled mid-term with a pro-rata refund, though some carry an administration fee. We check your current terms first and only suggest moving early when the maths genuinely works in your favour.
What should I have ready?
Your current schedule if you have one, the renewal date, and a rough idea of values — rebuild cost for a home, purchase price for a vehicle, stock and equipment totals for a business. Estimates are fine at this stage; we'll refine them together.
How quickly will I hear back?
Enquiries are answered in the order they arrive, normally within one working day. If your renewal is close, mark it in the message and we'll move you up the list.

Start with a few details

Five fields is enough to begin. We'll reply with any follow-up questions and, where we can, an indication of what your options look like.

  • A reply from Nora, not an automated quote engine.
  • No cover is arranged and nothing is charged until you confirm.
  • Your details are used for this enquiry only.

By sending this you're asking for a conversation, nothing more — no cover is in place until a policy is confirmed in writing.
